Resurgent ULFA
The militant outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)’s repeated attacks in various districts of upper Assam dominated the headlines of the newspapers in Assam. The Sentinel (26 June), in its editorial ‘Very soft targets’ commented: “If the activities of the ULFA have picked up in upper Assam after the shock therapy it was subjected to by the Royal Bhutan Army, it is deplorable that the Unified Command structure of administration in the State has been able to do so little to control the developments. What were expected of an administration that has long enlisted the help of the armed forces were excellent intelligence initiatives that could provide precise information on where the ULFA cadres were heading after being driven out from Bhutan by the Royal Bhutan Army, as well as the ability to anticipate and prevent these strikes.â€Â
