Modern Policing and the Concept of Authority: An Empirical Consideration of a Philosophical Question

On 10 February 2020, IPCS hosted Ms Sundari Nanda (IPS), Special Commissioner of Police (Vigilance), Delhi Police, for a talk on ‘Modern Policing and the Concept of Authority: An Empirical Consideration of a Philosophical Question’. The interaction was moderated by Muneer Ahmed, Research Assistant, IPCS, and took place from 1530-1630 hrs in the IPCS Conference Room.

Ms Sundari Nanda is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. She was the first woman Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Her accomplishments include key initiatives such as establishing India's first Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of the Central Bureau of Investigation; introduction of a psychological test for Delhi Police Commandos in collaboration with clinical psychologists; and computerisation of recruitment process for Delhi Police, among others. She also runs a website called 'Navchetna.com', a one of its kind police-public partnership initiative, to provide free online mentoring and information to young adults by engaging experts in various fields.
