National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Politics of Immigration in Assam
On 27 April 2018, IPCS hosted Sanjoy Hazarika, Director, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), to discuss 'The National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Politics of Immigration in Assam'. The interaction took place from 1530-1630 hrs in the IPCS Conference Room.
About the Speaker
Sanjoy Hazarika is a human rights activist, scholar, author, journalist, and filmmaker, and currently the Director of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI). He reported for The New York Times out of South Asia between 1981–1996, and remains a contributing columnist to The Times of India, The Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Tribune (Chandigarh) and The Assam Tribune. Also a member of India's first National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), he now frequently appears on both national and international television programmes. In 2010, Sanjoy was awarded the Dr Jean Mayer Award for Global Citizenship for his innovative work and initiatives in health and governance in India’s Northeast.
