China troop build-up, Tibet upgrade impact our security: Army chief
New Delhi, July 3: After pointing at the 'exponential pace of China's military space programme' last month, Army chief General Deepak Kapoor has drawn attention to the growing military buildup in Tibet and said that the 'improvement of infrastructure' by China in the region would have an impact on India's security in the coming years. Speaking on the changing global environment and its impact on the Indian Army at a function organised by a leading defence think tank, General Kapoor said that while there is constructive engagement between the countries, India needs to be cautious about the impact of China's military modernisation in Tibet ......

China says developed, developing countries need cooperation on global challenges
A senior Chinese diplomat on Thursday urged developed and developing countries to work on common policies and cooperation to address the global challenges such as climate change and food security. "China values dialogue between the Group of Eight (G8) and developing countries", Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi said at a briefing on President Hu Jintao's attendance at the Outreach Session of the G8 Summit ......

Gov't Adrift as Economy Hurtles Toward Crisis
The government is running on empty while the Korean economy hurtles toward crisis. An impending Cabinet reshuffle has paralyzed ministries in charge of economic affairs at a time when they need to curb inflation. Cheong Wa Dae is adrift as massive protests against the import of U.S. beef continue to undermine confidence in the Lee Myung-bak administration and its will to implement promised economic reforms. A boycott of the National Assembly by opposition lawmakers, meanwhile, is delaying urgent bills that would scrap regulations and mitigate economic hardship. One high-ranking government official called the situation 'a total paralysis of the administrative and the legislative bodies.' Experts warn of serious consequences from the leadership vacuum at a time when action is long overdue ....
